DNC-2203 M16 USB-C to Micro-USB Charging Bulkhead Connector
DNC-2203 is an M16 underwater charging bulkhead connector designed to provide convenient external charging access to a compatible battery pack installed inside an underwater camera housing.
The connector features a USB-C female port on the outside of the housing, protected by a removable protective cap, and a Micro-USB Type B male connector inside the housing for connection to the charging input of a compatible internal battery pack.
The DNC-2203 allows the internal battery pack to be charged without opening the underwater housing. This can significantly reduce preparation time between dives and eliminate the need to repeatedly open, reseal, and re-establish the housing vacuum solely for routine battery charging.
Key Benefits
- Charge Without Opening the Housing: Recharge a compatible internal battery pack through the external USB-C port while keeping the underwater housing closed.
- USB-C Female Outside: Convenient external USB-C charging connection located under the protective cap.
- Micro-USB Type B Male Inside: Connects directly to a compatible internal battery pack with a Micro-USB charging input.
- Compact M16 Installation: Designed for compatible underwater camera housings equipped with an M16 bulkhead port.
- Reduce Housing Opening Cycles: No need to open the housing solely to access the battery pack charging connector.
- Save Preparation Time: Helps reduce repeated housing opening, sealing, and vacuum preparation between charging cycles.
- Protective External Cap: The external USB-C charging port is protected by a removable cap during underwater operation.
Why DNC-2203 Is Different
Auxiliary battery packs installed inside underwater camera housings can significantly extend camera operating time, but recharging them normally requires opening the housing to access the battery charging port.
DNC-2203 moves the charging connection to the outside of the underwater housing. The internal Micro-USB Type B male connector can remain connected to the battery pack, while the external USB-C female port provides convenient charging access from outside.
This is particularly useful for underwater camera systems that are used repeatedly throughout the day, where reducing unnecessary housing opening cycles can save considerable preparation time.
How DNC-2203 Works
The DNC-2203 creates a charging connection through the M16 bulkhead port of the underwater housing.
Outside the Housing:
USB Power Source → USB-C Charging Cable → DNC-2203 USB-C Female Port
Through the Housing:
DNC-2203 M16 Waterproof Bulkhead Connector
Inside the Housing:
DNC-2203 → Micro-USB Type B Male → Internal Battery Pack Charging Port
When charging is required, simply remove the external protective cap and connect a USB-C charging cable. After charging, disconnect the cable and securely reinstall the protective cap before underwater use.
Application with Nauticam NA-A6500
One of the primary applications for the DNC-2203 is a Nauticam NA-A6500 underwater housing for Sony a6500 configured with an auxiliary internal battery pack that uses a Micro-USB charging input.
The internal Micro-USB Type B male connector of the DNC-2203 connects to the charging port of the battery pack and can remain connected inside the housing.
When the battery pack needs to be recharged, the user does not need to open the underwater housing. Simply remove the DNC-2203 protective cap, connect a USB-C charging cable to the external USB-C female port, and recharge the internal battery pack.
Less Housing Opening, Faster Turnaround
Opening an underwater camera housing involves more than simply removing the back or cover. After the housing is closed again, the sealing surfaces must be properly prepared and vacuum-equipped systems may require another vacuum verification cycle before returning to the water.
With the DNC-2203 installed, routine battery charging can be performed while the housing remains closed. This minimizes unnecessary access to the main housing seal and reduces the need to repeat the vacuum preparation process solely because the internal battery requires charging.
For professional underwater photography, videography, research, inspection, and other applications involving frequent camera use, this can substantially simplify the workflow between dives or shooting sessions.
